Kalgoorlie 14, 15 November 2011

What else would you do but pan for gold in Kalgoorlie?

Andrew in front of the lift that took us 36 metres underground.

About to start the underground tour of the first ever Kalgoorlie mine, now part of the Miner's Hall of Fame.

Did you know that the name  'Thunder Box' came from the sound of the echo of a worker using the toilet underground. We were also told that the worker who emptied the toilet profited as men smuggled gold out via the dunny.

One of the huge mining trucks behind Chloe and Andrew.

One of the tyres off the truck.

Chloe in one of the scoops used in the Super Pit.

The Super Pit once know as 'The Golden Mile'.
The holes in the side walls were tunnels dug by early prospectors by hand up to a hundred years ago before the pit consumed the whole area.

The latest addition to the Museum.
This 23 kg nugget was found only last year near Kalgoorlie and is the third largest ever found using a metal detector.
